I agree that one minute accuracy in observed sun altitudes in the prevailing conditions, even without the overcast, would be next to impossible for ordinary mortals on a small boat 'platform' in the Antarctic Ocean
I suspect that Worsley's advice to Shackleton of a ten mile positional uncertainty would also have been an acknowledgement of other accumulated factors, including poor information on actual course and speed made good between transferred lops and the probability of unknown timekeeping errors.
