Why could you not plot an intercept LOP on plane paper?
Because azimuths cannot be plotted on plane paper. The Sumner chord method used two points so the azimuth does not matter.
Maybe we are at cross purposes. By plane paper I mean a chart on whuch the lat and long scales are the same, regardless of the latitude.
