I thought the story was between a physician and engineer. A very willing beautiful woman offers herself but each would need to engage asymptomatically. The physician gives up immediately for fear of spreading infection and the enginneer succeeds because he uses a safety factor ;-)
This reminds me of the story of the physicist and the engineer. A very beautiful naked woman offered them her favors but they would need to approach her asymtotally. The physicist gave up immediately and left because he knew he would never reach her. The engineer was successful because he knew he would get close enough in just four iterations.
