Thank you Frank, you’ve reminded me that it’s almost exactly a year since I was talking about our friend Eratosthenes, and I’m talking about him again next week, so I’d better dust of my Globe and check the paper work’s in order.  It’s a long time since I read it, but I seem to remember that Squire Lecky also had plenty to write about zenith fixes, three arcs in his day from three successive shots, no smart-phone calculated azimuths.  DaveP
