Stars do pass directly over your neck of the woods so try a high altitude shot on Capella during morning twilight tomorrow and let us know how you do.

I think by Jove , I’ve got it! (sometimes takes a while these days I find!).
I’ll have to dig out my homemade Azimuth compass ( adjustable mirror brings flash image of sun down from high alts), but not planning on going to tropics in near future.( I wish!) Doesn’t look as if I’ll ever see these sort of very small Zenith distances and close GPs at latitude 50, or am I still confused? Unchain me from my frustrating ignorance on this.
