    Dear Gary,

    I can see the flaw in my "method": if the headwind makes my groundspeed == zero, I'll never reach the destination despite my plane stays wing-to-the-Sun-wise.

    So, for the "Sun-compass landfall" to work, the plane must have very certain speed - not slower than some minimum. If it were lightning fast, we'd reach the destination along the approach LoP at once.

    How does this minimum speed depend on the circumstances?
