And NOT 100% irrelevant to marine navigation. GPS actually has to take into account the gravitational and velocity-dependent time dilation for those satellites way up there. Time runs faster up there because the satellites are out of the deeper part of the Earth's gravitational well... and time runs slower because the satellites are travelling at high speed. Yet another exercise for th reader to figure out which time factor wins out. <g>
