Canadians realize, with sorrow, that our postal service is one of the worst in the world. I had a letter once that took 9 days to get from Winnipeg to Edmonton. I wrote to Canada Post to complain that I could have bicycled that letter and hand-delivered it more quickly. I got no response, of course, but was so irritated that I mailed 10 letters to friends using Smokey-the-Bear stickers from a conservation society instead of Canada Post stamps. Half of them were delivered without any issues.
Canadians were, as a group, earlier adopters of email in the early 1990s than Americans...I think because the American postal service is (or was then, at least) more efficient. Canadians were desperate to find some way to communicate that didn't involve Canada Post.
