Hi Stuart,
I agree with Noell; Pelican's are the way to go. As seen on CL 20Nov25 this morning there is a Sextant FS:
"Tugboat Captain selling a pristine condition Cassens & Plath Horizon Ultra Sextant. Purchased in 2019..." <seach on this text string; near Newport RI
This C&P Sextant comes with the standard wooden case as well as a Pelican case (Pelican Air Model 1525); this looks like a highend user application. You stated:
>I always found my sextant wooden cases to be somewhat fragile and have started moving my sextant collections to Pelican and Nanuk waterproof hardcases.
I own four (4) metal Marine Sextants stored in their original wooden cases but if Santa gifts me the Hinckley B40 Yawl I am eyeballing I would get a "universal" Pelican case that would fit which ever sextant I chose to bring on my round the world voyage. Until then they remain in their wooden cases as I also have experience with foam disintegrating over time. In other words long term storage = wood; short term storage = pelican; BTW I own three (3) long Pelican cases ie one 1700 and two 1720's for another application.
HTH
With best wishes.
Yours sincerely,
