I have. I bought a post war Cassens & Plath that didn't have a case and a Harbor Freight Apache 2800 case. It barely did not fit. I packed the case full and put a heat gun on the top to make more room. It sort of worked and I can put the C+P in with zero clearance. I think the problem centers on the 2.25"(57 mm) horizon mirror. It's ok for carrying around but I wouldn't want to ship it. Buy a Pelican that fits if you have a C+P.
The next size up is a 3800 and it has room for the sextant, books, and a change of clothes. Too big.
A Celestaire Astra 3b, with a 2"(51 mm) mirror fits the 2800 case with two sheets of foam.
Pelican cases look like they've got many more choices in case depth.
