Another way to navigate the numbered menus is to enter the number of the
desired item. For instance, when the sexagesimal menu is displayed, the
"to DMS" function is #6, so you can press the 6 key. This may or may not
be easier than the 4-way scroll key.

I agree, sexagesimals are a pain on the 36X Pro. To enter 45°30.1′:

1. Enter 45.
2. Press Math.
3. With the 4-way scroll key, go right two times. The sexagesimal menu
appears.
4. Press 1 to select the degree symbol.
5. Enter 30.1.
6. Press Math.
7. With the 4-way scroll key, go right two times. The sexagesimal menu
appears again.
8. Press 2 to select the ′ symbol.

It's quicker to key in the conversion to decimal by hand as Greg
described. However, an advantage of entering an angle the hard way is
that it's more compact on the screen — less scrolling if you review or
edit the formula.

My Casio FX-7400G Plus has a single key marked °′″ to enter
sexagesimals. It's a soft key — the label appears at the bottom of the
screen above the F1 function key. Four keystrokes are necessary to get
there, but the soft key remains until you re-purpose the function keys.
To enter 45°30.1′:

1. Enter 45.
2. Press °′″.
3. Enter 30.1.
4. Press °′″.

Confusingly, the screen shows 45°30.1°, but when you apply say a sine
function the result is correct.

On the HP 49G you enter 45.3006 for 45° 30′ 6″. (Unlike the TI and Casio
calculators, there's no provision for decimal minute input.) Then press
the HMS→ soft key. There's also a →HMS soft key for the reverse conversion.
