The interstellar distance without refraction is easily calculated.
What you measure with your sextant INCLUDES refraction.
There has been extensive discussion on this list about how to calculate the refraction and how that affects the interstellar distance.

They can be easily calculated with info from the Naut. Almanac and the following formula:
arccos(sin(Declination 1)*sin(Declination 2)+cos(Declination 1)*cos(Declination 2)*cos(GHA 2-GHA 1)
