    Here is one that I got a few years ago (for carpentry, not for sextant
    calibration):

    I tested it and found it was only out by 1/4" at 100 feet, but you have to
    be very patient: the bubble takes several minutes to stabilize and with
    every minute adjustment you have to wait for it. Still, for the price it's
    a remarkably accurate instrument.

    Right, but if you want to use the red dot as a horizon substitute you'll
    need the beam to be level.
