Hi Doug,I will leave the first part questions,i.e.,what to look for,to the others but regarding accuracy the Astra in my opinion is every bit the sextant the Tamaya is. I had an Astra,currently own a poor man's Tamaya,Simex Mariner,and have great results. Practice makes perfect and graphing Lunars and other sites,Ds vs time,and Hs vs time, will provide an evaluation. Lunars can be hit or miss.
