I have posted this before. It is a real example of three simultaneous bearings to three lighthouses, when, sailing to Socoa, the wind became to calm on-board an 8 m sloop.
In my experience the quality of the LoPs was excellent: good instrument, (a mini 2000 handbearing compass ), good visibility of the targets, no waves, and no local magnetic fields.
The cocked hat is small, but the GPS fix (the sailboat icon) is outside it. I remember that the HDOP was very poor, and I gave more confidence to the coastal fix.
For me, the time spent in plotting the three bearing on a paper chart aboard, is the same as the used in plotting the GPS waypoint on the chart.
