When I see these kinds of structures, I imagine an enormous amount of temporary scaffolding and materials handling that is dismantled after completion. And then there is the light, lense and masking, oil storage, stairways etc.
I have always wondered how brick lighthouses and tall chimneys are laid up true. Surly there is some centering fixture or frame with plumb bob that rises with each course
There are several Hudson River (New York) decommissioned lighthouses near where I live that have been privately restored, one is a bed-and-breakfast place. They are lovely sites and reminders of navigation years gone by.
