David,
Thank you very much for sharing your impressions and experience!
Sure I want to try such a lesson.
As a hardcore backpacker myself - I could add an advise on internet costs savings regarding the e-mail: if you were using a laptop-installed e-mail client (like Claws Mail or the Bat!) - you could connect to the gmail by the POP3 and SMTP protocols which require even less internet traffic than a web-based e-mail access (even HTML-based). The other advantage is you will have local copies of your in-box and will be able to prepare the outward mail while off-line.
As a side-note: you mentioned that the crew was Sri-Lankans. How did you find them? I personally find them very pleasant people, I've spent quite some time in Sri-Lanka and I enjoyed the experience.
Thank you again for the story - it did wet my appetite for such a journey!
Warm regards,
Tony
