Thank you for posting this information about Thomas Metcalf. His contributions to solar astrophysics were quite impressive, and his astronomy background was ideal for his interest in celestial navigation. I was sorry to read about his premature death; backcountry skiing can be a dangerous sport.
I have enjoyed reading articles in your Navigational Algorithms website. Somewhat embarassingly, I've only recently realized that San Sebastián and Donostia are one and the same city.
