I think the north-bias should be universal. Take New Zeland - when I landed in Christchurch and rented a car I could drive around and know where things were because the map was north up - just like driving around Paris or Toyko. Try finding Mt. Fuji by reading a map where east is up.
If people did not travel around the world by boat or airplane than any map bias would be OK.
My references to Yellowknife and Vancouver, etc. was in direct reference to the artical implying that North - Good ( rich people live north, etc) and south - Bad.
My " New age, PC BS" was more my lack of being able to express myself. I have read and seen this same concept many times and usually tied to the Eurocentric bias as bad.
