Drago S, Chuck V, and Frank, many thanks for answering my question; your identification of Neuschäfer’s Heath Hezzanit sextant is absolutely accurate. I had never seen one before. It was easy for me to identify the Freiberger drum sextant, as it’s the one I use. My problem now is that when I see Knox-Johnston and Van Den Heede with one, I feel a touch of what is called these days “impostor syndrome” beside these two great yachtsmen.
Art L, I was very amused by the AI “identification” of a non-existent “Neuschäfer sextant”. A wrong, made up answer is much worse than an honest “I have no idea” response. This was combined with very poor machine vision, evidenced by its description of the “distinctive silver frame” of a sextant with an obviously black frame. In these matters, it seem much wiser to rely on the NavList community’s “cerebral intelligence” rather than on Bing’s artificial “intelligence”, for the foreseeable future.
Best, Rafael
