I found it as well in Bowditch, 1849. Being the curious type, I went through the exercise of calculating the time of high tide for my location. Needless to say, it did not yield a correct answer. I recall that it was off by hours. Not even close to a correct answer. This is probably the reason it was dropped. Just useless in practice. One can find descriptions in the "Quatri Partitu" of Alonso de Chaves (ca. 1545) and in English in two versions of Chaucer's treatise on the astrolabe (which may be later additions), not to forget the French booklets by Guillaume Brouscon. A table giving the moon's bearings for the main ports at high and low tide was included in practically every textbook on navigation well into the 19th century. If you want to read more about it, see: Howse, Some Early Tidal Diagrams, in: Mariner's Mirror, Vol. 79 (1993), 27 - 43. The booklets by Brouscon are dealt with by Dujardin - Troadec, Les Cartographes Bretons du Conquet. La Navigation en Images 1543 - 1650, Brest 1966.
