As I was googling around I learned that the time ball in on the Flagstaff Lookout in Port Chalmers, New Zealand was reinstalled in 2020 and is dropped daily at 1pm https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Port_Chalmers_time_ball Apparently the clock from the original time ball is in the Otago Early Settlers Museum in Dunedin and I will certainly take a look the next time I visit my home town.

Port Chalmers has a small but very interesting Maritime Museum which is well worth a look. Above the town is a memorial to Captain Robert Scott whose departed from there on his ill-fated Terra Nova expedition of 1910. From what I understand the mayor of Port Chalmers at the time was a wealthy coal merchant who promised Scott a load of coal and a tow out to sea if he stopped in. My paternal grandmother worked as a typist at H. L. Tapley & Co., chandlers and family tradition has it that she got to meet Scott.
