Hello everybody, I taught myself celestial many years ago (the 50s), and I retain a nice collection of Navigation textbooks from the 30s (Weems) to the 21st century. Recently, I have noticed something that strikes me as odd. In all of my older tests, the importance of time diagrams is stressed...I even see time diagrams on WWII USAAC sight working sheets. I remember that I disliked time diagrams at first. They seemed unnecessary...until I messed up! But I have noticed that many (perhaps all) of the more recent texts ignore time diagrams. That seems odd to me. I'm probably missing something. Can anyone comment? I should appreciate an explanation.
By the way, I have become too old and rickety to sail, so I'm wading back into celestial jus to see if I can still do it. I'm playing with the nautical almanac and ANT/Ho218.
Cheers,
John P
