    Hello All,

Thanks for all the great information regarding the various versions of time sights and how they have changed and progressed throughout history.

I have been reading some of the posts on here regarding "GPS spoofing" and got to thinking about a possible senario where, if it did acatually happen to the ship that I work on, it could have greatly affected us, and no doubt all ships at sea.

Approximately one year ago we were tasked to provide assistance to a ship that was located approximately 800 nautical miles south of Newfoundland, basically in the middle of nowhere. After a week or so both ships were to proceed to an island in the Caribbean. Now comes the “what if” part of the post. What if the GPS system was “spoofed” leaving the system unreliable or there was a total crash of the entire system rendering it completely useless.

What celestial methods / practices would you use to get your ship back to port? Perhaps a morning and afternoon time sight with a noon sight for latitude? Maybe the intercept method? Simultaneous evening sights? I guess when it comes down to it, you are basically going to use what you use whatever methods you are familiar or comfortable with, but I look forward to your replies.

    Chris
