(Just a wee bit off topic) During the Apollo days, NASA missions all worked on Houston time. Made sense, really, since mission control was located there. Then the Americans started working with the Russians, Europeans, Canadians and Japanese on the Space Station, and shifted to using GMT (errr, UTC). This also makes sence, what with the international nature of the project and all those folks in different timezones, to adopt the logical and universally recognized international time standard.
Wrong.
It's got nothing to do with international standards, and everything to do with the Moscow subway schedule. See, while the folks in Houston like to drive thier cars to work, the Russian staff generally uses the subway, and it doesn't run 24/7. So if they used Houston time they couldn't get to work. Just so happens that GMT works pretty well, so that's what the entire project uses.
