Paul,
After reading these historic snippants, I feel like I have been living under a rock. I had no idea that Civil Time was not adopted as the GMT standard till as late as 1925. And yes, I can imagine the astronmers resisting every attempt to do so. Now I have to find out why I believed the British Admiralty issued new standards for log books to be kept in Civil Time in 1805, that is AM-12noon-PM. Perhaps I got this wrong. I have to re-look at where I thought I saw this.
Thanks for pulling these snippants on the GMT-Civil Time tug-a-war. I can imagine the resistance to change.
