In experimental tests, I get errors of about 3 seconds per minute by
counting. That's 5%. By contrast, a crude pendulum should be accurate to about 3
seconds in ten minutes or 0.5%.
Also note that the "clock" mechanism of a crude pendulum is still verbal
counting. As with an ordinary pendulum clock, the swinging pendulum in this
case only serves to regulate the beats.
