There was a little book called "Hints To Travellers" published by the Royal Geographical Society, and edited for them by one E. A. Reeves. I have the 9th edition dated 1906. It is a compendium of surveying and navigation for explorers. There is a detailed section in it on the "Computation of Longitude from an Occultation of a Star". I would be surprised if Worsley did not have this book on his shelf.
Thanks for the link. I have downloaded pdfs of the 1854 and 1901 editions. Raper was one of the authors of re 1854 edition.
