NavList:
A Community Devoted to the Preservation and Practice of Celestial Navigation and Other Methods of Traditional Wayfinding

We're getting into a category of off-topic messages that I specifically described previously as CLEARLY inappropriate: messages which are more than two steps removed from any topic connected with normal NavList discussions. And one member, Bill B, apparently fell for a hoax and posted a fake advertisement which a number of other people found offensive. I have deleted that content and also deleted a blockquote in a follow-up which quoted it back. So just let that one drop, okay? You don't need to "me, too" on this.
And let me remind you that some NavList members consider any discussion of the lost aircraft to be highly annoying. I received a private email from one frequent contributor who wrote (paraphrasing slightly) "Enough! I may take a break from NavList." Therefore, I will be moderating most messages on this topic. If they include anything related to position-finding, I will either pass them through as soon as practical, or I will collect them and post in a daily batch. But if it's more than two steps removed from the topics of NavList, they will not be posted. And, by the way, if any long-term NavList member would like to audit that process, you're more than welcome to do so. Please contact me privately if you want to get in on that unpleasantness.
That said, I hope we mostly agree that messages related to position-finding, position-determination, navigation in one form or another, even if not historical or sextant-based, and EVEN IF related to the lost aircraft, are sufficiently close to the main topics of interest to this community that they deserve to be discussed. We all know what to do: have a little patience for the diversity of interests here while at the same time respecting the integrity of the group's primary focus. And I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE everyone to start new conversations that are close to that primary focus. That constructive course of action is always the best approach.
Thanks! And sorry for the interruption.
