Aha. Yes, now I understand and agree with that. For what it's worth, that's another "advantage" of the old time sight and ex-meridian analyses of sights. You can do "cartesian" plots (square: lon scale = lat scale) since azimuth is not used.
For calculators:

Yep! I recently did a survey of calculators in stores like Target, Walmart, Staples, etc., and I was pleased to see that the "Casio fx-260 Solar" is still selling well and usually for less than $10. It was $8.47 (???) at Walmart. That's the calculator I recommend.
