The Helix rotating compass rose is good for plotting azimuth and intercepts from a DR position in very cramped quarters or when using a clip board. Not so good for plotting sheet construction. The best tool for plotting sheet construction is Peter Hakel's "T" plotter. I recommend the compact version which is I think $15.
For general plotting it is hard to beat a pair of triangles and dividers.

Concerning plotting sheets- in reading your web log you mentioned a helix angle and circle maker. Do you use it much when plotting your sights? It probably has many uses and even a simple way to make a UPS. That's my guess.
