Yes, that works on a long enough strip when max speed is just above stall 😉. But not in cloud!
My blind dhow captain could get into Bandar Abbas in night fog, hearing and smell, and he could stop.
QE2 loaned me an AP129. The abvice had changed, Pulling an F4's nose up to paint a high flier would lead to a flick stall, maybe flame-out. I got maybe 15,000 hrs command in swept wing Boeings in the cruise: Mach effects are just a bit faster, stall just a bit slower. Coffin corner. Nice to have instruments then !
By the way, we got the Land Rover back to UK, but had to change the route a lot.
