Monday May 9, 2016 the planet Mercury will transit the face of the Sun. Mercury is tiny, so this is considerably more difficult than observing a much rarer transit of Venus. The entire event will be visible in daylight from western Europe and eastern North America (as well as most of South America). Some portion of the transit is visible in most other parts of the world except eastern Asia, the western Pacific, and Australia and New Zealand.
