    Like de foxtrot (the dance not the flag) came from a certain dancer named Harry Fox,
    the "renard" (with a d) takes its name from the foxy Captain Renart (with a t) 
    who introduce the use of this apparatus in France.
    It's the French name of the traverse board.
    
    For the fun,
