A successful quest, I'd say, Greg. And very much a memory-lane trip for me since the Ebbco was my sextant on my first offshore passage.
Right now my old pal is suffering from shade sclerosis. All but one have gone opaque, and the only usable one causes the lower limb of the sun to show a 2'-3' downward bulge. So UL sights only. Any suggestions as to what to use to replace the shades' material?
This summers quest has been to see how light (less than 2 pounds) and compact (10" x 10" x 3") a complete non electronic celestial navigation kit can be without sacrificing precision. I believe this quest has ended with Doniol sight reduction using compact trig tables, Ix azimuth diagram, Kolbe LTA excerpts, and the Ebbco plastic sextant. 5 pages of tables easily folds into the Ebcco sextant box. Traveling with a sextant has never been so easy :)
