Had not touched my Astra 3 sextant in a number of years. I was recently was taking some moon and sun sight off a beach in racine, WI without any problems. There was some light pollution from Chicago as Racine is maybe 30 miles or so north of Chicago on Lake Michigan. I was having trouble bringing 1st magnitude stars down due to poor visibility through scope. My sextant is setup with a 7x scope. Would it be better to use a zero magnitude sight tube when taking star sight? I also have 25/20 vision in right eye from a boom hit on a Florida distance race years ago. Will start using my good left eye for sure when bringing a star down. Any suggestion as to setup for sextant scope would be appreciated.
