how soon till we have the ability to install a chip in a human being so that
he can be monitored from cradle to grave? Sounds paranoid yes, but I am
starting to become uncomfortable with this new technology. Currently, at
least to my knowlege, it is being used as a benevolent tool. But like all
things contrived and operated by humans, it can also be used for power and
    control.

My new cell phone (thank you, Verizon for selling such crappy phones
that I've had to replace mine four times in five years) has GPS. In my
setup menu I can allow the GPS information to be given to anyone or only
to emergency services agencies. (On the other hand, if the US's
National Security Agency can monitor domestic phone calls in direct
contravention of US law in the name of WOT (War on Terror), I suspect
there's nothing to stop them from masquerading as a 911 service, either).

But if you want to worry about that, how's about the largest license
plate manufacturer in Britain proposing to put RFID tags in them? Heard
a bit about that on the radio yesterday, with the marketing droid
telling about what a great advantage to the police it would be...
