Based only on latitude from the LAN shot (about 27° 12.5' N) and longitude five hours west of Greenwich, I'd say we're off the cost of Florida. Given the time of the unusual celestial object's appearance, I'd say we're in a position from which we could have seen the launch of Friedship 7, with Alan Shepherd aboard. He took off from Cape Canaveral (roughtly Lat. 28° 29' long. 80° 34.7') 60 to 70 miles to the north about 9:48 a.m. local time (14:48 UTC) on May 5, 1961, and became the first American in space. With his launch we could say the United States entered the space age.
