    Yes, I've now seen this story from four different sources independently (no harm in that!).

    Some folks have been confused by the description of the course as a "three hour" program. That doesn't mean three hours total... 180 minutes of instruction and done. Presumably it means that it is three semester-hours which corresponds roughly to a "half-time" class, but all semester. That's plenty for future officers since most of them will never have any call to use celestial navigation. Even in emergency or wartime circumstances, their non-comm quartermasters will do the navigating. It's certainly valuable to have some grounding in the process, but a semester-length program may well be much more time than they really require.
