But, putting my lawyer's cap on (after all, I am a lawyer) is see two very big holes in the container ship's captain's story. If they were warning the Fitsgerald then they would have known immediately that there had been a collision yet they travelled on for a half hour towards the east before turning around and they delayed for an hour in reporting the collision to the authorities.
So I'm back to my original opinion, nobody was on the bridge of the container ship.
