To the extent that compasses and pencils help people understand the principles of navigation and increase situational awareness this is a wonderful idea. To the extent that we go back to the “bad all days“ before electronic navigation is a profoundly misguided idea. The combination of the situational awareness created by electronic navigation coupled with redundancy, back up (its self redundant) and good sense is far superior to looking at the heavens for nearly all practical applications.
