Jerry et al. I asked this question about a year ago but nobody bit. Now WW2 U-Boat navigation has come up again, perhaps I can try a second time. Having read Das Boat shortly after researching the early Naval career of William Bligh, it struck me that navigationally speaking there were many similarities between the role of Master of an 18th Century RN sailing vessel and the Navigator of a WW2 U-Boat, a warrant holder rather than a commission holder, but nevertheless, in certain respects, the Captains right-hand man in so far that all the officers were supposedly capable of navigating, but the WO Navigator was the specialist. On the other hand, you could probably say that about every WO specialist in the crew. Discuss. DaveP
