David, I didn't read through your analysis in detail, but have you checked your GHA using the usual USNO web app? Here's the output page for that first sight...

Thanks for that link. I hadn't though of obtaining 115 year old data from such a site. In future it will be a convenient way of checking historic sights (as well as current ones).
The GHA is close to what I remember obtaining when I subtracted the EoT rather than adding it.
