Three weeks ago, Andrés posted a link to this article "Understanding the Accuracy of Astro Navigation" by Roy Malkin. There are some interesting points. It reads a bit like a digest of NavList messages (naturally --these are topics we've often discussed). He makes a few good points in the article, but there are quite a few that I think are wrong, especially a bad suggestion on weighting observations taken away from the meridian which he emphasizes towards the conclusion. But it's entertaining reading.
The article is under copyright of the "Royal Institute of Navigation". They have, however, made it available for free download at the link previously posted. I'm including a copy here.
