Ah, but the statistic cited does nothing to support your claim.
Manufacturing may only be 17% of the US GDP, but if the US GDP is very large, and no other economy is anywhere near as big, then the US may still dominate industrial markets.
I do believe it is shrinking, but different statistics are needed to prove this. One should compare other large economies such as China, Japan, US, UK, Germany and Korea and see who is really king of the hill.
