I read with interest your post about clearing lunars. I took Frank's lunar class in early Aug as well. It was the third time for me. You seem to have come to an understanding of lunars a lot quicker than I did. I have gradually gotten to the point where I can now calculate all of the numbers on Frank's "Clear and Analyze a Lunar" app from scratch. Could you tell me which program you used to illustrate your navigational triangle? I would like to have a little more professional record of a recent lunar that I cleared and I liked what you did with your diagram. I would also need an altitude-azimuthal grid. Suggestions from a few other NavListers would also be appreciated.
I also have a Davis Mark 25 sextant. I'm land locked with no easy water horizon, so I use Stellarium for my altitudes. It seems to be very accurate, flexible and easy to use. In the topocentroc mode there is no I.C. and HOE is zero. Altitudes ("apparent", if the atmosphere is present) of bodies are from their center so you don't have to work with SD's ( the moon's SD is augmented as far as I can determine). If you do need to know the SD of a body (e.g.to get the pre-cleared LD), just left-click on it and find its listed diameter and divide it by 2.
Learning CN was a Covid project for me.I spend a little time ( sometimes too much, according to my wife) each day doing some calculations, reading or otherwise thinking about CN so I won't forget what I have learned. How did you get interested in CN?
Homer.
