I always use a stopwatch started from my master clock on GMT, then when timing the sight I click the lap feature. I then read my altitude and record it. The start time has been previously recorded on my data page. I then record the "Add" (lap) time, add it to the start time and add one additional second for reaction time. I use an digital stop watch with a big LCD display.
