Hello again, Joe, In my last reply, I neglected to address your question about Beebe's Heur being a traditional pocket watch type. It only had the stem sticking up at 12 o'clock. His Heur rally watch wasn't a stop watch; it had no stop button. Instead, it was a 24 hr dial, seconds setting watch, which, he set to his chronometer or, more likely, a radio time tick. I personally like 24 hr second setting watches...Hamilton and Longines GCT watches being my own favorites.
Going back to your last comment/question, holding a watch in your left hand would, in addition to making a drop lickely, make it almost impossible (for me at least) to manipulate the index arm/micrometer drum...or am I missing something.
