If I might trouble this conversation with one last curiosity.  Being a bit ignorant of the more advanced vagaries of your calculation systems, I love to distill things down to the simple context of an average soul like me trying to find his way around mother ocean.

Before moving on to Frank's courses and others, I first succeeded in doing celestial years ago learning from John Karl's book, Celestial Navigation in the GPS Age.  Quirky in spots, nevertheless it was the first text that pulled a lot of  loose ends together for me at that stage. I came away working real sights and getting decent accuracy.  It gave me the confidence to keep at it and keep asking questions.

In that text I was introduced to V corrections. 

To grossly oversimplify....I took this away from that reading:    With respect to our position:  The moon is real close and wobbles a lot....so an hourly correction is needed.  Planets not so much, farther away and less quarrelsome...thus on the daily pages....the sun...no problem...steady and stable enough the almanac is good enough.

I was surprised after I was introduced so early to V corrections that some of you have never used them,  I just sort of accepted you just did this without great thought at the time.

Should I toss them like some of the air folks?  Shoulds I embrace them like John Karl?  

Shall I love them for the moon sights and for lunars, and lose them for planets as noise?  Lunars at 45-110 degrees can tolerate some slop in altitudes, so why kill myself...once I look at the v correction tables...they often seem insignificant....but when I get near the hour.  say 59 minutes......mmmmm...15' minutes seems like a lot to toss....    

Creating tables..I can see every reaosn to embrace near perfect accuracy is a goal.....

but.......  tumbling along in a smaller vessel on mother ocean.....  is there a reasonable man's standard of when to toss or not to toss......  

Or shall I say............ V or not to V that is the question...
