It seems like it would be fun to do some celestial navigation in VR, for training and experience if nothing else. (Some headsets are cheaper than a metal sextant now.)
The user experience would be something like this: you're on a ship, "holding" a sextant, with stars (or the Sun/Moon) overhead. Bring the sextant to your eye, and with the other hand controller, move the index arm and micrometer. Raytrace through the sextant optics for a realistic view in the eyepiece.
Maybe do a HUD or "notepad" with data like time and readout angle. Various mission scenarios could be crafted for difficult or unusual situations.
Cheers,
Peter
